A car repair shop in Madrid has been transformed into a house with a very particular design. The challenge became personal when the architect took on this project with a specific purpose: to rehabilitate the 156m2 garage into a home for her sister and her family.

The needs of this renovation required adapting a space that was once used as a vehicle into a comfortable and functional home for a family with young children.

The solution was to design a space composed of a series of interconnected rooms, eliminating the need for corridors. The kitchen and dining room have become the heart of the house, connecting all the rooms.

In order to maximise the space in the kitchen, the layout was divided into two lines: one with the hob and sink, and in front of this, a line of wall units to optimise storage.

The character of this house is emphasised by the choice of materials in their purest state. Concrete bricks mixed with ceramic tiles offer an industrial yet warm aesthetic. The detail in the corners, without cuts, not only adds an ornamental touch but also functionality for electrical installations. Accompanying these materials, the untreated birch wood and natural stone countertop in the kitchen reflect a preference for authenticity.

The result has been a space that not only meets the functional needs of a family but also provides them with a comfortable and stylish retreat.
