How to choose your kitchen appliances: differences between brands and what to look for

Choosing kitchen appliances can quickly turn into an endless comparison of models, features, and technical specifications. But many of those differences only matter if they are actually going to be used.

Before looking at brands, it's worth asking much simpler questions. How many people live in the house? Do you cook every day? Is the kitchen open to the living room? Do you need a lot of refrigerator space? Do you regularly use several cooking zones at once? Are you interested in controlling appliances from your phone?

The answers allow you to separate the features that will improve your daily life from those that will likely go unnoticed.

Five variables that matter more than brand

There are technical differences that may seem small on paper but are very noticeable in daily use.

  • Noise. If the kitchen is open to the living room, the decibels from the dishwasher or the extraction system become much more important than in an independent kitchen.
  • Capacity. A person living alone does not need the same refrigerator as a family of four. The same goes for the dishwasher, freezer, or even the oven.
  • Cooking surface. A 60 cm hob may be enough for cooking regularly with two pots. If multiple pans and casseroles are used simultaneously, upgrading to 80 cm can significantly change the comfort of use.
  • Oven functions. Automatic programs, steam, temperature probes, or advanced cleaning systems can be very useful for someone who cooks a lot and completely dispensable for someone who uses the oven occasionally.
  • Connectivity. Being able to control certain appliances from your mobile makes sense if it's part of your actual habits. If not, it shouldn't be a reason to upgrade.

With these five variables clear, comparing options becomes much simpler.

Appliance bundles: why they simplify your decision

Appliances do not arrive in a kitchen once the furniture is finished; they are part of the design from the beginning. The dimensions of the refrigerator determine the column that integrates it. The width of the hob affects the lower cabinet and the countertop. The dishwasher must coexist correctly with the front panel.

At CUBRO, we work with four appliance packs, BALAY, AEG, BOSCH, and SIEMENS, to reduce hundreds of references to four starting points with different levels of features and price. It's not about determining which brand is better, but about understanding which selection best fits each way of using the kitchen.

BALAYis the starting point for a kitchen where the necessary functions for daily use are sought. It makes sense in homes with one or two people, kitchens for simple use, or projects where the investment is preferred to be concentrated on other elements.

AEGis designed for more demanding daily use or with more people at home. It fits well in a family kitchen where the oven, hob, and dishwasher work practically every day, and a higher general level of performance for the set is desired.

BOSCHmakes special sense in kitchens open to the living room, where the noise of long-running appliances, especially the dishwasher, is a relevant variable. The acoustic level is one of the most notable differences compared to the previous packs.

SIEMENSis aimed at projects where greater features, connectivity, and capacity are sought, including the largest refrigerator of the four options. It makes sense when a lot of cooking is done, more food needs to be stored, or technology applied to the kitchen will truly be used.

Packs are a starting point, not a closed configuration

If a kitchen includes an 80 cm cabinet and requires a hob of the same width, the included hob can be replaced. If there is an existing dishwasher or refrigerator that you wish to keep, it can be removed from the set. And if the project needs a washing machine, dryer, or another additional appliance, it can be incorporated from the available references.

Each modification should respond to a specific reason: more capacity, a larger hob, keeping an existing appliance, or a specific feature. This way, the pack remains a tool to simplify the project instead of becoming a comparison of hundreds of models again.

What if I want to use my own appliances?

It is also possible to incorporate appliances you already own or wish to purchase outside of CUBRO's selection, provided they are compatible with the design.

And here, the exact reference matters. It's not enough to know it's a built-in refrigerator of a certain brand or a 60 cm hob. The technical team needs to check the specific model, because dimensions, ventilation, hinges, opening systems, or installation requirements can vary. Before purchasing an external appliance, you must provide the exact brand and reference to check its compatibility.

The appliances are chosen before the kitchen is finished

Perhaps the most important decision is also the easiest to postpone: appliances should not be left until the end of the project, because they are part of the kitchen's architecture.

A wider hob modifies the cabinet and the countertop. A higher capacity refrigerator may require a different column configuration. A different extraction system can change what happens over the cooking area.

That's why the correct order is: first, understand how the kitchen will be used, then what features meet that use, and finally, what appliances can solve them within the project.

BALAY, AEG, BOSCH or SIEMENS is the last question. The first should always be another: what do I need my kitchen to do every day?
