This project has transformed the ground floor of a building constructed at the end of the 19th century in the Poble Nou neighborhood of Barcelona into a hybrid space for study and living.

The main challenge of this project was to create a flexible space that could easily adapt to different uses, both in the short and long term. The idea was to design an environment that could serve both as a place to live and to work, breaking down the traditional separations between the two.

  • Inspired by the research project “Projecting the Void,” this project proposes a new perspective on housing, considering it as an infrastructure that stands out for its potential uses. This approach reimagines housing as a space that can be transformed and adapted to different functions according to the needs of its occupants. It is not simply a place to live, but a versatile and multifunctional infrastructure.

To achieve this, all wall coverings were removed, exposing the original materials. The use of tiles adds texture and contrasts with the exposed brick, creating an authentic, industrial aesthetic. The space was designed with an open layout, connecting the kitchen to the living room and generating a sense of depth. Storage areas were created using strategically placed cabinets and auxiliary furniture.

The design is characterized by continuity, achieved through the use of Blanco LACQUER furniture with ROUND handles, which creates a sense of cohesion and harmony. The white finishes and light tones were specifically chosen to maximize natural light, essential in a space that was originally dark.

The result is a multifunctional space that meets all the stated needs, creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior. The careful selection of materials and finishes has been crucial in achieving a bright and adaptable environment, ideal for both living and working.
