This project involves a renovation of a spectacular apartment overlooking the Retiro Park in Madrid. The renovation consisted of updating this classic apartment with high ceilings and moldings and natural wood floors without the need for major renovations or changes to the layout, as the apartment is rented.
Bárbara Lennie, an actress who won the Goya Award in 2014, and her family are the tenants of this apartment. The typical layout of an old apartment in the capital placed the kitchen at the back of the house, with few windows overlooking the interior courtyard. Bárbara and her family spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so they wanted a functional, comfortable, and versatile design.
The proposed design takes advantage of the light sources and maximizes space. A line of base cabinets extends from the window. This houses the stovetop and sink, where cooking can be done in full natural light during daylight hours. This front is complemented by a wall unit that hides the hood and shelves that increase storage capacity. On the opposite side, we designed a niche cabinet with plenty of storage space. This solution offers convenient space for storing and hiding everyday items, but also allows for decorative objects.
For the finishes, a bold design and playful color were considered. However, with only one light source and limited space, they opted for a light, Broken Lacquer color complemented by a warm touch of Cherry Wood.
