After living in Dubai for several years, a couple decided to make a radical change in their lives with the arrival of their first daughter. They were looking for peace, roots, and a closer connection with their family. Their destination: Blanes, the Catalan coastal town where she grew up. What began as a transitional period in a rented house soon became a life project: the complete renovation of a protected house built in 1961, still in its original state.

  • The challenge was immediate: the house had a pillarless structure, with load-bearing walls supporting the entire building. To carry out the desired redistribution, it was necessary to reinforce the structure with new beams. But from the beginning, the priority was to preserve the original spirit of the house. All the Catalan vaulted ceilings were retained, and the new beams were integrated by painting them green, a subtle yet significant gesture that connects them with the rest of the space.

Both owners work from home, which meant they needed a home that functioned well for both family and professional life. The renovation expanded the built area on both floors and organized it to allow for a sense of flow, natural light, and distinct areas for rest, work, and play. She, a graphic designer, led all the aesthetic decisions, carefully selecting every material, color, and combination.

In the kitchen, WOOD Roble with the PlLL handle was chosen, a selection that brings warmth, authenticity, and a timeless aesthetic. The design integrates seamlessly with the existing elements of the surroundings: the green windows, the terrazzo countertop, and the burgundy lamps create a balanced and personal palette. For the bedrooms, where wood is already present, LACA Rotoy Blanco was selected, opting for a lighter and more serene combination.

Today, this family lives surrounded by light, calm, and details that tell their story. In every corner, there's a balanced blend of what was and what is. The house retains the character it had when it was built in the 1960s, but now reflects a contemporary way of living: flexible, family-oriented, and mindful.
