On a hillside in the Sierra de Guadarrama, The Grasshome is presented as an alternative to conventional homes. Designed for a family, this experimental house proposes a new way of living, where the essential takes centre stage: connection with the surroundings, spatial quality and freedom of use.
Conceived without corridors or closed rooms, its interior is a large open space, completely diaphanous, where everything flows naturally. The sloping wooden ceilings and the use of honest materials give it an industrial and warm character at the same time. Large windows to the south frame the panoramic views of the mountains, filling every corner with light and nature.
Organised over two floors, The Grasshome responds to a steeply sloping site, which was a key design challenge. The ground floor is partially buried in the ground, giving it stability. In contrast, the upper floor is built with a lighter structure, which creates an open and flexible space. This structural duality results in a house that adapts to its surroundings without forcing it.
Everything revolves around a central axis, where the kitchen, finished in LACA Blanco with ROUND handles, is articulated in an L-shape with an island that structures the space without interrupting it. The LINÓLEO Mushroom worktop introduces a warm, matt texture that contrasts with the cleanliness of the white, bringing balance and warmth to the whole. In front of the island, a system of cupboards with the same finish as in the kitchen reinforces the visual coherence of the whole.
Designed to evolve with those who live there, The Grasshome does not impose a way of living, but adapts to it. Each element is designed to integrate naturally, providing functionality, order and visual lightness. Here, the limits are not set by the architecture, but by the daily decisions of those who make it their own.
