From garage to family home

A car repair shop in Madrid has been transformed into a home with a very unique design. The challenge became personal when the architect took on this project with a specific purpose: to renovate the 156 m2 garage into a home for her sister and her family.

The needs of this renovation required adapting a space that was once used for vehicles into a comfortable and functional home for a family with small children.

The solution was to design a space composed of a series of interconnected rooms, eliminating the need for hallways. The kitchen and dining room have become the heart of the home, connecting all the rooms.

To maximize space in the kitchen, a two-line layout was created: one with the stovetop and sink, and opposite this, a line of wall units that optimize storage.

The character of this home is highlighted by the choice of materials in their purest form. Concrete bricks mixed with ceramic tiles offer an industrial yet warm aesthetic. The seamless corner detailing not only adds an ornamental touch but also functionality to the electrical installations. Complementing these materials, the untreated birch wood and natural stone countertop in the kitchen reflect a preference for authenticity.

The result is a space that not only meets the functional needs of a family but also provides a comfortable and stylish retreat.
