Natural balance and functional design in a privileged setting

In the Montseny Natural Park, in Sant Esteve de Palautordera, is this 212 m² house, designed as a first home for a young family who decided to move from the city in search of tranquility and a greater connection with nature. The privileged location of the plot, with views of the mountains and the forest near the stream, has been fundamental in the approach to this project, whose main challenge has been to maximize contact with the natural environment, while maintaining spacious and comfortable spaces.

The two-story house is organized in a linear layout at the northwest end of the plot, which allows the southeast area to be fully utilized to capture sunlight and enjoy the views of the landscape. Although the house has a compact appearance, it is designed to open up to the outside. The main common areas—the living room, kitchen-dining room, and study—are aligned so that all rooms have direct access to the garden, enhancing the connection between the interior and exterior.

One of the key challenges was to create an energy-efficient home. To achieve this, cellular concrete walls with mineral wool exterior insulation and lime plaster were used, ensuring excellent thermal insulation and optimal temperature regulation. Furthermore, natural ventilation is maximized through strategically placed windows and the incorporation of elements such as porches and plant lattices that control the sun. All of this allows for a comfortable interior environment without the need for additional air conditioning systems.

On the upper floor are the private areas, including the bedrooms, a second study, a bathroom, and a laundry room, all visually connected through double-height ceilings that provide a sense of spaciousness and continuity in the space. The ground floor, dedicated to the common areas, is organized to connect all spaces with the garden. The kitchen, with a central island that acts as a meeting point and functional space, integrates perfectly with the dining room and living room, maintaining a fluid relationship between the interior and exterior.

The finishes stand out in the kitchen-dining room on the ground floor, where Agave and Blanco LAMINATE have been used, creating an elegant and natural contrast that complements the design of the space. These finishes integrate perfectly into the environment, complementing the natural and functional style of the home.

This project has been conceived as a space that makes the most of its natural surroundings, offering a harmonious and sustainable living experience surrounded by nature, where functionality and design are in balance.
