Kitchens - WOOD Cherry

Reviving Coderch’s essence

In Sant Gervasi, you'll find the emblematic Banco Urquijo building, designed by architect José Antonio Coderch. A home in this iconic location has been transformed, maintaining a balance between its rich history and contemporary needs.

The owners, a family with children, longed for a home that captured Coderch's original essence, but with modern touches. They focused on two main areas: a day area with connected spaces and a night area comprising four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

To respect Coderch's design, the building's original layout was studied. This research allowed for a design that prioritizes natural light, a Coderch hallmark, and where the day areas remain connected through sliding doors, providing both continuity and privacy.

The kitchen, the center of the home, evokes the original design by maintaining its bright gallery. It has a parallel layout with cherry wood cabinetry complemented by white laminate countertops. This design is not only functional but also allows for the incorporation of a space that can be used as an auxiliary dining room thanks to the large countertop.

The interiors showcase a careful selection of materials. Most of the Coderch woodwork has been restored, and where this was not possible, cedar wood doors were incorporated that respect the original tone. The owners desired touches of color, and this has been reflected in the ceramic tiles in the bathrooms and kitchen, with shades that echo the building's façade.

The renovation has managed to create a space that is both a tribute to history and a response to modern life. The owners feel immensely satisfied, living in a welcoming space with a unique essence.
