Kitchens - Smokey Blue LINOLEUM
A functional oasis in a 70s office
Located in Brussels, GACHARD 88 is an office space designed to foster collaboration between like-minded individuals. Spread across one and a half floors of a 1970s office building, the project was conceived from the outset as a warm and functional work environment, a departure from the usual corporate standard.
The tenants—independent professionals and creative teams—were looking for more than just a space to work. They wanted a place where conviviality and inspiration would flow naturally. The project responds to that desire by creating an oasis in the heart of the city, combining sustainable design and natural materials.
One of the main challenges was tackling a pre-existing structure with limited resources. Rather than erase the past, the decision was made to work with it: original walls, cabinets, and finishes were preserved, giving them new life through textures, colors, and smart planning that prioritizes functionality without sacrificing aesthetics.
The layout was redesigned to open up spaces, create meeting points, and optimize natural light. Throughout the space are meeting rooms of varying sizes, meeting booths, informal areas, and a library that visually connects the two levels.
In the shared kitchen, a natural, daily meeting point for the space's users, the Smokey Blue LINOLEUM, ROUND, finish was used . This deep, warm, and enveloping blue hue blends perfectly with the project's approach: a sensorial and functional design. The finish provides a soft touch, durability, and a distinctive, yet unpretentious visual character.
GACHARD 88 is proof that thoughtful design, with conscious materials and a human approach, can transform even the most austere spaces into places full of life.
